Theatre maker and choreographer Anthony van Gog works at the intersection of movement, light and sound. With his work, he invites audiences not only to watch, but above all to feel.

The quiet is an immersion in sound, light and bodies. At the centre of the space, on a raised platform, lie three performers. The stillest movements of the body — the shivers of sleeplessness, arousal and fatigue — unfold. Bathed in light, in one another, in sweat. Driven onward by the music and the pulse of the body. The audience is in motion, walking around this theatrical still life. An invitation to the viewer to keep choosing a position — in relation to the sound, to the other, and to the performers.

Come closer or step back for a moment: what at first seems still turns out to be full of movement. What is familiar feels strange. A heartbeat. Involuntary muscle tension, conscious relaxation. A sigh. A moan. A final breath?

With an ingenious scenography of invisible microphones, a cinematic soundscape and intimate, painterly light, the invisible is made palpable. In a world where bodies are increasingly reduced to pixels, data and performance, The quiet brings us back to what it means to be a body: raw, vulnerable and real. An ode to the body in its purest form.
